Learn more about Composite VeneersBespoke porcelain facings, designed with you and made in a laboratory to change the shape, shade and alignment of your front teeth.
Porcelain veneers are thin facings made individually for your teeth in a dental laboratory, then bonded to the front surfaces. Because they are made outside the mouth, the ceramist can control the translucency and surface texture in a way that is difficult to achieve by hand.
They are usually considered for changing the shape, shade or apparent alignment of the front teeth. Preparing a tooth for a veneer generally involves removing a small amount of enamel, which is not reversible — so this is a decision to take slowly and with a full explanation.

Made individually by a ceramist for translucency and surface detail.
Glazed porcelain resists staining better than composite.
Shape and shade agreed before anything is made.
A durable material when the bite is properly assessed and managed.
We discuss what you would like to change and examine your teeth, gums and bite.
Shape, length and shade are planned with you before any preparation.
A small amount of enamel is usually removed, and impressions or scans taken.
Temporary veneers are worn while the laboratory makes the final ones.
The veneers are tried in, bonded, the bite checked, and reviewed afterwards.
Porcelain veneers may suit you if your teeth are healthy and you would like a lasting change to their shape or shade. Your dentist will assess your bite, your gum health and how much enamel is present. Where teeth are significantly out of position, orthodontics first may give a better and more conservative result.
Several, with laboratory time between preparation and fitting.
Preparing a tooth for a veneer usually removes enamel permanently. This is explained fully first.
Brush and floss as normal, and keep regular examinations and hygiene visits.
Porcelain can chip under heavy load. If you grind or clench, a night guard may be advised.

If your question is not here, please ask when you contact the practice.
Generally no. Where enamel is removed to make room for the veneer, that change is permanent, and the tooth will always need to be covered. Your dentist will be clear about exactly what is planned for each tooth.
That depends on which teeth show when you smile and what you would like to change. This is planned with you — there is no standard number.
They should not. Shape, shade and translucency are chosen with you, and the aim is a result that suits your face rather than one that draws attention.
They suit different situations, and the honest answer depends on your teeth, what you want to change and how long you want the result to last. We will set out both.
Porcelain generally cannot be repaired in the way composite can, so a chipped veneer usually needs replacing. Contact the practice and we will arrange an assessment.
