Invisalign

A discreet way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners planned from a digital assessment.

Overview

About Invisalign

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners, each worn for a set period before moving to the next. Every aligner applies gentle, planned pressure, moving the teeth in stages towards the agreed final position.

Because the aligners are removable, you take them out to eat and to clean your teeth. That convenience comes with a responsibility: the treatment only works if they are worn for the number of hours your dentist specifies each day.

Benefits

Discreet

Clear aligners are far less visible than fixed braces.

Removable

Taken out to eat and to clean your teeth.

Planned in stages

Movement is planned digitally before treatment begins.

Reviewed regularly

Progress is checked against the plan at review appointments.

Step by step

How the treatment works

  1. Consultation

Your teeth, bite and gums are assessed and your goals discussed.

  2. Records & plan

Scans, photographs and x-rays are used to plan the movement digitally.

  3. Fitting

Your first aligners are fitted and wear instructions explained.

  4. Aligner phase

You change aligners as directed and attend reviews.

  5. Retention

Retainers hold the teeth in their new position — this part is for life.

Suitability

Who is it for?

Clear aligners can address many kinds of crowding, spacing and alignment, but not every case. Some situations are better treated with fixed braces or by a specialist orthodontist. Your dentist will assess your teeth, bite and gum health, and will say honestly if aligners are not the right tool for your case.

A professional assessment is always needed. The guidance on this page is general information, not advice about your own teeth. Whether this treatment is right for you can only be decided after an examination by one of our clinicians.

Treatment details

Wear time

Aligners must be worn for the hours your dentist specifies each day. Results depend on this.

Duration

Varies considerably by case. Your dentist will estimate at consultation, after assessment.

Retention

Teeth move throughout life. Retainers are needed afterwards to hold the result.

Considerations

Gum health and any decay are treated before orthodontic treatment starts.

About these images. Every photograph here comes from Liphook Smile Studio's own website — none is stock and none is AI-generated. They are shown as a clinical gallery rather than as before-and-after pairs, because the source site does not state which image is which. Supply matched, consented pairs and they will replace these.
Questions

Invisalign FAQs

If your question is not here, please ask when you contact the practice.

How long does treatment take?

It depends entirely on how much movement is planned. Your dentist will give you an estimate after assessing your teeth — not before.

Will it hurt?

Most people describe pressure or tenderness for a day or two after changing to a new aligner. That is the teeth moving, and it usually settles quickly.

Can I take them out?

Yes, to eat and to clean your teeth. But they only work while they are in, so the daily wear time matters more than anything else in the treatment.

Will my teeth stay straight afterwards?

Only with retainers. Teeth naturally drift throughout life, and retention is a permanent part of orthodontic treatment, not an optional extra.

Am I suitable?

Many people are, but not everyone. Some bites are better treated another way, and we will tell you if that is the case rather than proceed regardless.
