What is teeth whitening?
Professional teeth whitening brightens teeth and aids in clearing extrinsic food stains and discolourations. As a result, teeth whitening has grown in demand. Whitening can not entirely replace the colour of your teeth; however, it does lighten the hue without losing any of the tooth surfaces. The effects can be temporary; how long the results of teeth whitening depends on individual dietary and other habits like smoking.
Teeth whitening procedures utilises Hydrogen Peroxide or carbomide peroxide to brighten the teeth.
Because whitening treatments can only be used on healthy teeth and gums, other dental procedures may be required before whitening. Before the whitening treatment, a visit to the dental hygienist is also suggested to cleanse the teeth and clear any deposits thoroughly.
Whitening procedures will not lighten tooth-coloured fillings or prosthetic teeth. For a few days following the whitening procedure, teeth may be sensitive, although this is only temporary.
Whitening trays and gels for teeth: First, the dentist will take an imprint or scans of your teeth and send it to a dental technician, who will create a custom tray based on your exact specifications. Then, our dentist will ensure that the tray fits appropriately and show how to perform the process at home.
The tray is filled with gel and adheres snugly around the teeth. Based on the type of whitening gel, these trays are worn for a few hours during the day or overnight which will be advised by the dentist during your visit. Please note that they might take a week to a couple of weeks to show any results.
Whitening products sold over the counter. Though over-the-counter whitening kits are available, our dentists do not advocate them.
How long does whitening lasts? +
It can vary from person to person. How long the whitening might last depends on many factors like your food and other habits. The less staining things you take, longer the effects will last. However, it is unlikely to remain as long if you smoke or consume stainable drinks (including tea and coffee).
